As winter approaches here in the UK the aut/win clothing ranges start to arrive and one of the first with their split delivery meaning clothing suitable for the UK’s autumn weather is King Apparel.
King Apparel are one of the UKs foremost premium streetwear brands remaining resolute as ever; to develop and grow a clothing brand independently, run by those who live and breath the culture; to create cutting edge design; to deliver impeccable quality and to retain the utmost integrity at every point. Keeping things exclusive with a maximum of 300 pieces or less produced in each garment and a no re-runs or repeats philosophy to retain exclusivity.
With that King Apparel have covered many bases this season with a pricepoint denim coming in at under £55 the Athelstan is set to sell out instantly. Made with the same care and quality of all King garments the Athelstan is setting a new standard, matt black King buttons on the fly, leather K logo patch on the right rear pocket and tan embroidered triple stitch on the rear pockets, these bad boys have been manufactured to perform and sell.
Along with denim King have produced some custom, cut and sew crew neck sweat shirts in classic colour combinations and killer designs, The Prestige with the King lion head logo sells out every season and this year comes in the new exclusive colour Baby Blue. That is supported by what will become classic designs Reign Supreme no fifty shades of grey here just athletic grey with a yellow print and the new East London Kings in Navy with blue print or bad boy black and orange, if you know your culture you will get these designs.
Enough of the classics I said King had covered all the bases and here’s my key piece and whilst others in the streetwear business are playing safe King drop the Duck Camo Rain Mac, BOOM!!!! I love this piece and will be rocking mine any day. King started from scratch and designed the camo and had the fabric produced before they perfected this jacket. I know King Apparel and I have one of their jackets that I wear everyday in the cold morning walking my dogs, it performs and I know the Duck Camo RainMac will too and not only that it looks very, very, VERY cool, sorry did I repeat myself there 😉
Of course you can get all these pieces plus more from King Apparel and all your other favourite urban streetwear brands from sturbanclothing.com the only place to shop online since 1999 and still keeping it UK and independent all the way.
Search for Kulez on You Tube and it will soon become apparent that the Zimbabwean born emcee has already packed in so many punchlines and metaphoric imagery that you wonder how he sustained the intensity for over 100 battles.
Looking forward we are set for a debut solo album for 2011. You won’t hear the eerie baritone hollers of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but the dubstep and d’n’b influence with a hint of grime and a whole load of hip hop lyricism. At 20 years old, still unsigned, no managers, no booking agents or lawyers the kid is fully independent.
Here we have an exclusive mix for Sturban Clothing mixing styles from all genre’s of UK and the odd US urban music artist, and like the Sturban site and clothing brands this mix is raw, earthy, underground and untamed, it’s of the street and for the street – original since the day we dared be different.
If anybody reading fancies doing a podcast it’s one hour min in mp3 format and supply us with a tracklisting, simple as that we aint exclusive we are happy that if you have a band are a producer, dj or just like music then wack some tracks together and entertain us we wont make fun, we not unless you slip in some S Club 7 tracks. we can supply drops so hit me up glyn[at]sturbanclothing.com.

Many years ago, Sturban Clothing did a t-shirt design based on the ancient Chinese symbol for “revolt and nationalism”. It was basically a clenched hand with the index finger outstretched, symbolising that great change could be brought about if everybody lifted just one finger. Remember – the Christmas 09 music charts number one was Rage Against the Machine. Why? Because a bunch of people got together and revolted against the fact that we were being fed what we should choose. Each person raised one finger to bring about change and show that they would not be told what would be number one. That bunch of people were all just normal people, like you and I, and we can make a big difference if we all unite and do one small thing.
So what are we revolting against? Everything! For me it started with parents, then authority, then it got personal and was the media playing the same music and telling me what I should listen to. Newspapers portraying stereotypes and expecting us to believe that masses of the population acted like, believed or bought this; and so should we.
These guys advertise that you’re ugly, smelly and fat, but tell you that you can have all the money and women you want just by buying their spray (with a money back guarantee, of course). Corporate organisation think they can use their economies of scale to go into Third World countries and exploit resources and people, and why not? It’s always happened. Just look at the history of the East India Tea Company or Tate and Lyle.
Beating the system, it became apparent that you can just drop out, but you never really can, so the only way to beat the system was to be part of it and play it’s game. Refusing to believe, making up your own mind, being true to yourself and being an individual were what was important to me while not buying big brands, and I’m not bandwagon jumping some Fair Trade fad, it goes deeper.
All of this passes over to Sturban Clothing, and whilst many may look and see a clothes shop, just take a closer look. Why don’t we stock certain big selling brands? Why do we choose small independents? Why don’t we bandwagon jump on music scenes and artists? Why are we supporting the core, small underground labels, events and people? And think what all these people, brands and labels have in common – ATTITUDE. Does your multinational, corporate, suit-driven company really have that, or do they just follow the bottom line?
So, let’s all lift one finger for the ATTITUDE and support the individual that offers you choice and truth and is more concerned with how and why, rather than how much and how soon.
Lifting that one finger is easy, all it requires is you, your attitude and your support in telling everybody you know in anyway you can and for them to do the same. So post on Facebook, write a forum post about our site, a brand we host – even a design! Write on our forum about an event you are putting on or going/been to get support for that event; build the scene. Tweet, comment on our blog or others (pls mention us). Message your Facebook groups, add our url to your signature file on forums and email, hey you can even earn cash doing this with our affiliate program…
Every little thing you do can inspire others, and very soon the world will know we’re ready for change, pls contribute, pass on and take part

Affiliate Marketing is a popular method of promoting web businesses in which an affiliate is rewarded for every sale provided through his efforts and offers a win win partnership between merchant and affiliate. Affiliate Marketing is a great opportunity to earn money online as well as have the freedom of owning your own business and working at home with next to nothing in start up costs but it takes hard work and it is not a get rich quick scheme.
After running an outsourced affiliate program for many years Sturban Clothing had a rethink as it was producing a number of problems:-
Cost – the third part company was charging a management fee and commission that meant we couldn’t offer affiliates the amount of commission they really deserved.
Quality of Links – many of the affiliates had no interest in our site, products or market, they were in it for the money and the cookie, using methods that were undesirable and sent poor unqualified traffic.
Help and service to the affiliate – once you joined up you were on your own with little help on how to integrate links and banners into your site.
On going training and support for the affiliate – there just wasn’t any.
So Sturban wanted to address these issues and the initial response was build something custom but we can across a third party software that addressed most if not all of these issues:
Commission – we now offer commission up to 15% that can be increased by a further 2% if affiliate want product and can further be increased by tier commission (earning commission on any affiliate that join the program via your links).
Affiliates – whilst the program offers text, banner, lightbox and page peel advertising and would be suitable for professional sites the Sturban program is aim at customers talking to friends and peer groups in forums, blogs and on social networks as much as if not more than sites, the most important thing for Sturban and the affiliate is relevance. You are interested in our products so it follows that any groups and friends you talk with should also be interested, meaning quality links, referrals, sales and commission for you.
Full video training – the Sturban program comes with a series of training videos hosted on our server covering basic subjects such as “What is Affiliate marketing”, “A Blueprint for Affiliates”, how to include code and strategies for using all the marketing tools and from their goes on to cover advanced subjects “Social Marketing” and “Viral Marketing”
Support – maybe the most important element of this program is the commitment of Sturban to make this program work for everybody involved and to that aim there is an appointed person who just happens to be the company owner who you can email, MSN, and there is a private Twitter where ideas can be thrashed out and exchanged.
Pepsi and Gourmet link up to produce a special-edition Gourmet UNO. The limited kicks come with three different lace sets (red, blue, and red/white/blue), playing up the different colors in the design seen throughout the midsoles and tongue.
Why do a shoe with Pepsi?
When the opportunity to do a collaborative shoe for Pepsi arose, we were very excited about the project. Epiphany approached us with the idea, they had the relationship and we ran with it. The heritage of Pepsi in the US and where we grew up in the East Coast is very nostalgic. Seeing the Pepsi vending machines as kids and growing up in the end of glass bottles and the introduction of the 3 liter. More importantly, Pepsi is classic American and has evolved but stayed constant all these years. We like to think of our brand Gourmet as very similar.
How did you choose the design elements?
The design process and fabrication for this piece was clean and classic. We utilized our signature model the UNO and applied a 8 oz. cotton canvas with a high density silk screen on the tongue. The light weight fabric was chosen to be worn in the spring or summer. What is better than an ice cold Pepsi on a hot summer day, the shoe complements that. The color chosen are the exact Pantones from a Pepsi can. We blocked the sole in the standard Pepsi navy and played with the white and red on the upper and laces. Overall the shoe is classic with a pop; you can see the connection.
NEIGHBORHOOD has collaboration with fragment design on a Vintage Custom Works 2010 collection. The collection revolves around various re-worked jackets each bearing specific co-branded touches in the form of patches. All-in-all, the collection features leathers, cotton jackets, zip hoodies and t-shirts with availability through the NEIGHBORHOOD store in Harajuku. Want one!!
The Futura x Nike Sportswear collection has hit various retailers over this holiday season. Joining the recently seen Air Force 1 Mid is this Dunk High Supreme. A multi-colored camo print covers much of the upper with the rest featuring in rip-stop like nylon. I want some.
Lock up your daughters and batten down the hatches, because FLY53 are coming to London to celebrate our fifteenth year of life, and to see out 2009 like only we can. FLY have teamed up with Vice magazine and Sailor Jerry to create THE party of 2009. To ensure that you wake up feeling like roadkill, we have drafted in GALLOWS, LOVVERS and MALE BONDING to tear up the stage. Holding the ship steady all night will be a DJ sets by Rolo Tomassi, Sexbeat, Holy Roar, The A-Team, Jonathan Rockwell and Laurent Bernard (from Gallows)
Just in case your minds and souls have been poisoned by the unforgivable reality music shows to the point where you have not heard of these acts, heres the 411….
The five piece from Watford have this year released their second album ‘Grey Britain’ which has been receiving high scores from the people who ‘decide’ what music is good, and is a further kick to the balls of the ‘Punk Purists’ waiting to tear this band down. Bring your fists and meet us in the pit because their set is going to hit harder than Chuck Norris’s roundhouse kick.
Male Bonding epitomize what it is to be a DIY musician by releasing their material through their own label Paradise Vendors Inc. they join the growing number of talent not defined by major music labels. Male Bonding was a former (pre) name for the legendary Sonic Youth, themselves champions of a DIY scene that generated the sound of rock emerging in 80’s New York.
The combination of Grunge/Tropical/Surf music understates the energy that their music generates live so maybe leave the board shorts and Hawaiian shirts at home.
Lovvers are pop-punk, devoid of cheesiness and studio polish, something all too familiar with the genre. The band are plainly loud! Their albums sound like the band have recorded in one room, live with the amps at Spinal Tap level and the engineer tied up in the control room.
Born in the mid 90s from a limited series t-shirt collection, FLY53 has grown into one of the most innovative street fashion labels in the UK. Fly53 produces the very best wearable and original garments. Staying true to its heritage, the brand continues to collaborate with musicians and artists, injecting integrity, creativity and quality into an increasingly bland corporate market.
